Why Bajan Gold exists
We started this for our mothers. And then it became something bigger.
Barbados is full of remarkable people in their later years — people who raised families, built businesses, taught classrooms full of children, and carried this island on their backs for decades. And too many of them are now spending their days alone at home, with the television for company and the phone ringing less than it used to.
One of them is the reason Bajan Gold exists.
When we watched someone we love slowly fold into the quiet of an empty house — going out less, smiling less, becoming less — we realised something had to change. Not with medicine. Not with a doctor's appointment. With people. With somewhere to go on a Thursday. With a reason to put on a nice shirt and leave the house. With the simple, powerful feeling of being wanted somewhere.
So we built it.
Bajan Gold is a community for the active 60-and-over on the south coast — dominoes and day trips, art mornings and long lunches, gentle movement by the sea and afternoons of good conversation. But underneath all of it is one idea: that no one should grow old feeling forgotten.
We believe later life should be loud with laughter, full of friends, and rich with things to look forward to. We believe the people who built this island deserve a community that celebrates them. And we believe — we've seen — that the right invitation, at the right moment, can bring someone back to themselves.
What we stand for
Run by the community, for the community
Bajan Gold is coordinated by a small team and a growing group of member volunteers who help organise events, welcome new faces, and keep the energy alive. We're always looking for people who want to get more involved — whether that's hosting an activity, suggesting a day trip, or just making sure newcomers feel at home.
